1,4-dioxane: Formulas must comply with the thresholds below in final formulas: 1) 1 ppm or less for rinse off products (products meant to be rinsed off, wiped off or removed), 2) 3 ppm or less for lip products and 3 ppm or less for all other leave-on products.

Acetaldehyde: Prohibited

Acetonitrile: Prohibited

Acrylamide and Polyacrylamide: Prohibited

Aluminum Powder: Prohibited

BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole): Must be 0.1% or less of total formula

Cyclic Silicones: Cannot be intentionally used but is allowed at trace levels <0.1% as it is technically an unavoidable impurity.

DEA complexes/derivatives/condensates (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine): Prohibited

EDTA and EDTA derivatives: Prohibited

Ethoxylated ingredients: Restricted use. Allowed if ingredient meets contamination limits for 1’4 Dioxane and ethylene oxide. Ethylene Oxide: less than 2 ppm for lip products and less than 7 ppm for all other products. 1’4 Dioxane: less than 10 ppm in rinse-off products and less than 3 ppm in leave on products.

Formaldehyde donors: Prohibited

Hydroquinone: Prohibited

Lead Acetate: Prohibited

Methyl cellosolve: Prohibited

Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI), Methylisothiazolinone (MIT): Prohibited

Mica: Mica use is allowed, but documentation is needed from the ingredient provider to ensure it is being sourced ethically and is not contributing towards child labor issues. (Responsible Mica Initiative).

Microplastic Beads: Restricted use. No insoluble plastic microbeads (any intentionally added 5 mm or less, water insoluble, solid plastic particle used to cleanse or exfoliate) in rinse off products.

Nanoparticles: Restricted use. Limited usage and requirements for nanomaterials as listed in the Annex of cosmetic European regulation 1223/2009 including: Methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (MBBT) – Annex VI, entry 23a, Titanium Dioxide – Annex VI, entry 27a, Tris-biphenyl triazine – Annex VI, entry 29, Zinc Oxide – Annex VI, entry 30a.

Palm oil and palm-derived ingredients: Palm oil and ingredients derived from palm oil are allowed, but documentation is needed from the ingredient provider to ensure it is being sourced ethically (100% certified RSPO via mass balance).

Parabens: Prohibited

Perfluorinated compound (PFAS): Prohibited

Phenoxyethanol: Restricted use. Must be 1% or less of total formula.

Phthalates: Prohibited

Resorcinol: Prohibited

Retinyl Palmitate: Allowed but we discourage use in products meant to be worn in the sun or during the day.

Shea butter: Shea butter is allowed, but documentation is needed from the ingredient provider to ensure it is being sourced ethically.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): Prohibited

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS): Prohibited

Styrene: Prohibited

Styrene oxide: Prohibited

Synthetic Nitromusks and Polycyclic Musks: Prohibited

Talc: Allowed, provided companies using talc provide written confirmation from their suppliers that their talc is asbestos free and has been tested and certified as asbestos free per FDA rules/regulations.

Thimerisol: Prohibited

Titanium dioxide: Restricted use. Prohibited in spray or loose powder formats due to inhalation concern. Limited usage and requirements for nanomaterials as listed in the Annex of cosmetic European regulation 1223/2009 including: Methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (MBBT) – Annex VI, entry 23a, Titanium Dioxide – Annex VI, entry 27a, Tris-biphenyl triazine – Annex VI, entry 29, Zinc Oxide – Annex VI, entry 30a.
